There you have it! Xi Jinping just ordered his military to become an AI.

Not "adopt AI." Not "study AI." Build what the Party's own readout calls an "intelligent military system" — a force run by algorithms, sensors, and autonomous drones instead of men. UnbiasedHeadlines.com has the breakdown: https://lnkd.in/eKzF5uDT

He said it this week, at a Politburo study session, days before the PLA's 99th anniversary. In China's system, when Xi personally re-ups a priority from the top, that is the starting gun. The money moves. The promotions move. The whole nation moves.

They even have a word for it. Intelligentization. It has been in PLA doctrine for years. The 2027 deadline is real. This is not a press release. It is a mobilization.

Now hold that next to what we did the same month.

We took our most advanced frontier AI lab — the first one cleared to run on classified military networks — and we blacklisted it. Anthropic got a $200 million contract, refused to hand the Pentagon mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons, and got labeled a national-security "supply chain risk" for saying no. Every federal agency was ordered to rip it out within six months.

One country is telling its entire military to become AI. The other is spending six months arguing over whether to even trust the AI it already built.

And here is the part that should keep you up at night. China isn't only building this on homegrown models. Reviews of Chinese research show PLA-linked labs training their defense tools on distilled Western AI — ours. We built the wall on chips and let the models leak out the back.

I've spent my career building AI inside the government and out. I have watched us lose races we were winning, not because the other side was smarter, but because we couldn't get out of our own way. This is that, at the scale of a war.

This is the exact fault line REPLACEMENT is about. People think the book is only about AI taking jobs. It is — that is the front door. But the back half is the national-security version of the same story: the country that moves fastest on AI doesn't just win the economy, it wins the century. Right now one side is mobilizing and the other is filing paperwork.

I wrote it down before it was a headline. Now it's a headline.
