There you have it! Watch the President say it on camera.
When asked who flagged Anthropic to the White House, Trump answered: "Actually, it was a competitor and a part owner that turned Anthropic in. They didn't like what they were doing. They were very concerned."
Stop and think about what that sentence means.
A company that owns a piece of Anthropic, and competes with Anthropic, went to the federal government and got the most powerful model in the world labeled a national security threat. Fable went dark. Mythos went dark. Builders, allies, and warfighters lost access overnight.
Then a meeting happened, and the threat label disappeared.
Who is "a competitor and a part owner"? There are only a couple of companies on Earth that are both. Amazon put roughly 8 billion dollars into Anthropic and runs the rival stack on AWS Bedrock plus its own models. That is the definition of a competitor that is also a part owner.
So let me be precise.
Documented fact: The President said a competitor and part owner turned Anthropic in.
Strong inference: The only entity that fit "biggest part owner and direct competitor" is Amazon.
My opinion: If a company can buy a stake in a rival and then use Washington to switch that rival off, that is not regulation. That is sabotage with a flag on it.
Every founder in America should be terrified.
Because the lesson is not about Anthropic. The lesson is that your competitor can take your money, take a board seat, and then pick up the phone and have your product banned by the government. No court. No charge. No published standard. A phone call.
That is not a market. That is a kill switch held by the people who lose if you win.
