There you have it! The Pentagon just made Palantir Technologies's Maven an official program of record — AI is now a core combat system recommending which bombers and munitions hit which targets over Iran — while one man is single-handedly destroying America's AI advantage from the inside.
First the good news. Project Maven started in 2017 as a scrappy AI experiment that Google famously walked away from because employees protested military use of AI. Now it is being deployed across the ENTIRE Department of War. It recommends strike packages. It processes intelligence at machine speed. This is AI at war. For real. Right now.
Second — DNI Tulsi Gabbard just told Congress what I have been saying since 2018: China aims to displace the United States as the global AI leader by 2030. The intelligence community is FINALLY putting this on the record. Beijing is fast-tracking military AI while we debate ethics guidelines and build government-owned junk that nobody uses.
We have FOUR YEARS. That is it.
And here is where it gets infuriating. The biggest threat to American AI dominance right now is not China. It is Emil Michael.
By the way, Emil blocked me from LinkedIn this week, I am quite sad about it.
One man — with zero AI expertise, zero military technology background — has single-handedly done more damage to the Department of War's AI capabilities than any Chinese operation could dream of. He banned Anthropic — the company whose Claude was the MOST deployed frontier AI model on classified networks. He got GPT-5 removed. He is systematically burning bridges with every major AI company while his former business partner Eric Schmidt's Google quietly captures the entire Pentagon AI market.
While Palantir's Maven becomes a program of record and our intelligence community warns that China is four years from overtaking us — Emil Michael is playing politics with national security. Banning the best tools. Alienating the best companies. Creating a monopoly for one vendor.
We cannot afford this. Not with four years left.
