There you have it. The FBI just officially declared the Chinese hack of US surveillance infrastructure a "Major Cyber Incident."
Volt Typhoon. Salt Typhoon. Let me tell you what those names actually mean.
Not future threats. Current occupations.
Every major US port. Water treatment facilities. Power substations. Oil pipelines. The operational technology keeping 330 million Americans alive — China is already inside.
They are not stealing data. They are pre-positioning. Waiting.
I raised this exact issue at DHS. I walked those halls.
I was so alarmed by what I saw that I became a prepper. Not as a hobby. As a rational response to what I knew. When you have seen the actual state of our critical infrastructure cybersecurity with your own eyes, you buy a generator. You stockpile water. You make plans for your family.
That was years ago. Things have not gotten better.
And yet — while China has been living inside our power grid, our ports, our water systems — we spent months debating whether Anthropic is a "supply chain risk." We banned an American AI company for having too many safety guardrails while our adversaries used AI to map every entry point into American critical infrastructure.
This is not a technology gap. This is a leadership and priority gap. And the American people are going to pay for it.
