I remember what the job used to look like. He'd come home and tell us what happened that day - not what he thought about it, what HAPPENED. He'd check a thing twice before he said it out loud at his own dinner table. Being wrong in print embarrassed him. That was the standard.
Nobody was optimizing his copy for engagement. Nobody was A/B testing his headline to see which version made you angrier.
That job doesn't really exist anymore.
Somewhere along the way the news stopped telling us what happened and started telling us who to be mad at. And it worked. It worked so well that we can't sit at a table together anymore without someone reaching for their phone to prove the other person is an idiot.
Holidays got quieter. Certain topics became off-limits. Two people who love each other reading two completely different versions of the same country.
That's not politics. That's a business model. Outrage pays better than facts, so outrage is what gets made.
So we built the thing my father would have recognized. Unbiased Headlines. What happened, sourced, without someone's thumb on the scale. No ads. No paywall. No algorithm deciding you need to be angrier today than you were yesterday.
And yesterday we shipped Video Mode - so the news can just play while you're making coffee or on the treadmill. Scroll, Video, List, Card. Same facts either way. You pick how you take it.
Now I need something from you, and I'd rather have it blunt than polite:
Have you actually tried the iOS or Android app, or are you still on the web?
Is My News cutting the noise, or is it still letting junk through?
What's missing - what would make it the first thing you open instead of the third?
And does the ad-free part actually change how it feels to read the news, or is that just something I tell myself?
Tell me what's broken. I'll fix it.
Last thing. We don't sell your attention, so we don't have the budget the outrage machines have. The only way this reaches anyone is if people hand it to each other.
If it's earned your trust, give it to one person you've stopped being able to talk about the news with.
