There you have it! Meta built an AI clickbait machine. Then stuffed it inside its own app. Then quietly killed it the second a reporter started asking questions.
You can't make this up.
For YEARS Meta stood in front of Congress and swore it was cracking down on misinformation and low-quality clickbait. They changed the algorithm. They added "news feed quality" rankings. They killed the News Tab.
Then they cut out the middleman.
Why pay a clickbait farm in Macedonia when you can just generate the slop yourself? AI content is basically free. It fills the screen. It keeps you scrolling.
So Meta's standalone AI app added a "For You" feed that generated entire fake "stories" on demand. No reporters. No sources. No accountability. ZERO.
The Verge tested it. The system profiled a British reporter and served him fake pieces about royal butlers and UK pub crawls. It pegged his colleague as a watch guy and fed him fabricated Rolex "stories."
One "news story" was traced back to a 2018 BBC comedy sketch about a fictional character. The AI laundered a sitcom joke into a "fact."
This ran for MONTHS. Nobody was told. Nothing was labeled clearly enough for a tech reporter to even notice.
And here's the tell: Meta didn't fix it when they found it internally. They pulled it AFTER a journalist showed up.
A company that catches its own mistake fixes it quietly. A company that gets CAUGHT removes the evidence.
This is the future of "news" if you keep trusting these platforms. Fabricated. Sourced from nowhere. Engineered to keep you scrolling, not to keep you informed.
So I built the opposite.
UnbiasedHeadlines.com — every story sourced. Every claim cited. Bias rated left, center, right so YOU decide. No clickbait. No synthetic slop dressed up as journalism. Built end-to-end by my AI agents, for a few thousand dollars, to do the one thing the trillion-dollar platforms refuse to do: tell you the truth and show you the receipts.
In a world drowning in AI junk, the answer isn't less AI. It's AI pointed at the right problem.

Time to wake up.
