There you have it! Huawei now controls 34% of the global telecom equipment market. That's up from 29% in 2018 — the year we started trying to kill them.

We sanctioned them. We blacklisted them. We put them on the Entity List. We begged our allies to ban them.

And their market share GREW.

3.2 billion people outside of China live in countries running Huawei 5G infrastructure right now. 170+ countries. Only 11 out of 27 EU nations actually banned them. The rest shrugged and kept buying.

You can't make this up.

Meanwhile, here at home, the FBI found Huawei equipment on cell towers near U.S. military bases in the rural Midwest — capable of capturing and disrupting highly restricted DoW communications, including those used by U.S. Strategic Command. The people who control our nuclear arsenal.

Huawei wasn't even making money on those deals. They were selling at a loss to get their gear next to our silos.

How is that acceptable?

Congress allocated $1.9 billion for the "Rip and Replace" program to tear out 24,000 pieces of Huawei and ZTE equipment from U.S. telecom networks. That money covered 39.5% of the actual cost. Rural carriers are still running Chinese gear because we can't even fund the removal.

Huawei sits inside the backbone of global telecommunications. Every allied nation running their equipment is a node Beijing can leverage — for espionage, for disruption, for coercion. The U.S. kept evidence of Huawei backdoor access classified until 2019 before sharing it with the UK and Germany. By then, the infrastructure was already built.

Our export controls didn't slow China down. They accelerated Huawei's independence. The company built its own chips, its own operating system, its own ecosystem — entirely free of American technology. We funded their autonomy with our own sanctions.

I have seen this movie before. I walked those halls. We move slow. They move fast. And while we argue over funding a $3 billion removal program, Beijing is building the digital backbone of every continent that isn't North America.

Episode 2 of In the Nic of Time LIVE — "Inside My AI Kingdom" — drops May 5 at 1PM ET.
