Anyways, the Motion Picture Association — Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. — announced a memorandum of understanding Monday with ByteDance. Yes, THAT ByteDance. TikTok's parent. The one I've spent years telling you is a national security threat.
Their very first formal AI agreement with anyone on earth, and they hand it to Beijing.
And why did it happen? Not goodwill. ByteDance got caught. In February the MPA sent a cease-and-desist after users cranked out unauthorized deepfakes of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, SpongeBob, and Stranger Things scenes on its Seedance tool. So the "fix" is to bless the Chinese generator — Seedance, Seedream, TikTok, CapCut, Dreamina — with a copyright pinky-promise and let it keep building against American models.
An MOU. Not a contract. No penalties spelled out. No public audit. If ByteDance loosens the filters in six months, the enforcement mechanism is... another angry letter.
Let me say the quiet part. This is the most creatively bankrupt industry in America. The one that hasn't had an original idea in twenty years. Reboots. Remakes. The fourth reheat of the same superhero. And when it finally decides to make a real deal on AI, it picks the Chinese Communist Party's app company to do it with.
Shameful.
But then again — what did anyone expect? Hollywood was captured by communists a long time ago. It self-censors for Beijing's box office, edits its movies for Chinese approval, and stays silent on the CCP because the market matters more than principle. China already owns them. This just puts it in writing.

An industry that lectures America about values, licensing its creative future to a regime that runs surveillance states and re-education camps.
