China Threat AI Workforce
There you have it! China just hit 140 TRILLION AI tokens per day. That's a 1,000x increase since the start of 2024. And while Washington is still debating AI regulation — Beijing is building a futures market around those tokens.
Let that sink in.
China isn't just using AI. They're financializing it. Reuters reported exclusively that Beijing is developing an AI token futures market — derivatives, price discovery, hedging — the same playbook that built petrodollar dominance. Except this time it's compute, not crude.
Meanwhile ByteDance — yeah, TikTok's parent — just started building its own custom CPUs. Two parallel designs. One on Arm. One on RISC-V — the open-source architecture that doesn't require a single Western license.
Why? Because Intel told Chinese customers: six-month wait on server CPUs. Six months. ByteDance looked at that and said — we'll build our own.
And they're not building these for fun. ByteDance is rolling out agentic AI products through its Coze platform. Agents that don't just answer questions — they take actions. That requires serious compute. The kind you can't afford to beg Intel for.
Here's what most people miss. On OpenRouter — the world's largest AI model API — Chinese models hit 61% of total token consumption among the top ten in February. Four of the top five most-used models globally? Chinese. Not American. Chinese.
DeepSeek trained R1 for $6 million. GPT-4 cost $100 million. And DeepSeek's model activates only 37 billion of its 671 billion parameters per inference — slashing compute costs while matching performance. They're not trying to out-NVIDIA NVIDIA. They're making raw chip power irrelevant at the margin.
Beijing's 15th Five-Year Plan targets AI integration into 90% of China's economy by 2030. Humanoid robots. 6G. Quantum. Brain-computer interfaces. Drone delivery. Flying cars. And the stated goal — direct quote — total supply chain independence from the United States.
They've done this before. Solar panels. Consumer electronics. Skip the high end, flood the mid-market with efficiency and price, then compress from below. Now they're running that exact playbook on AI.
I have seen this before. I warned about it. Chapter 4 of my book REPLACEMENT — out July 28 — is called "The Silent Invasion." It's about exactly this. The moment China stopped playing catch-up and started building a parallel economy we can't sanction our way out of.
