There you have it! Anthropic just shipped Claude Fable 5 to the public, the first Mythos-class model anyone can touch, and buried in the launch is a line every enterprise should read twice: mandatory 30-day data retention on ALL traffic. Even for customers who signed zero-retention contracts.
Two months ago Anthropic said this class of model was too dangerous to release. Cybersecurity capabilities, mainly. They held it back on purpose.
Now it's live. Through the API, Enterprise plans, rolling out to Pro, Max, and Team.
What changed? Not the danger. Just the calendar flipping toward an IPO.
Both TechCrunch and CNBC flagged the IPO. Investors want revenue, revenue needs product, and "too dangerous to ship" turns into "ship it with a filter" the second Wall Street is watching.
The safety architecture is real, to be fair. Hard blocks on cyber, bio, chem. Trips a wire, it falls back to Opus 4.8. Over 1,000 hours of red-teaming and no universal jailbreak. That's more rigorous than most of the field.
But here's what nobody's circling.
To ship it, Anthropic unilaterally rewrote enterprise privacy terms. Companies that negotiated zero retention now keep 30 days of every query, like it or not. Anthropic says it's only for catching jailbreaks, not training. Doesn't matter. The contract you signed no longer exists, and you didn't get a vote.
The precedent is the story: the more powerful the model, the less privacy you get. Feed your sensitive data into a frontier system, accept that your queries get retained. That's the new tax.
And the pricing? Free through June 22. June 23 they pull it from subscriptions and move you to usage credits at prices The Verge calls "significantly higher." A two-week free window with a hard deadline is a classic sales tactic dressed up as a staged rollout.
I've built thirteen AI agents running my companies for under $200 a day. I'm the last person who'll tell you to slow down on capability. Use the best model. Stay model-agnostic.
But read your contract before June 23. The zero-retention deal you signed may be gone.
Full breakdown: https://lnkd.in/efxCDYzX — an unbiased news site built entirely by AI agents. Every claim sourced, every side rated. No spin.
The capability is incredible. The fine print is where they're hoping you don't look.
Time to wake up!
