There you have it! A two-year-old L.A. startup called Evotrex just raised $30M to build an "off-grid" hybrid RV.

Most of that money came from Chinese and Hong Kong firms: GSR United Capital, Forebright Concerto Capital, TTGG Ventures, Pegasus Capital.

TechCrunch was excited about the product. The funding source? Buried in paragraph four.

A DISGRACE.

Here is the pattern, again. The capital is Chinese. The batteries, range-extension, and energy storage are dual-use. The "consumer toy" is really mobile power and autonomy on wheels. And we let the same country trying to beat us write the checks.

We already lived this with BYD electric buses sitting on American streets. We keep pretending battery storage, mobility, and autonomy are just camping gadgets.

They are not. They are strategic sectors.

How is that acceptable?

Private Chinese investment is legal. Evotrex hasn't been accused of anything. But when the dominant funding source for a U.S. manufacturer is foreign state-adjacent capital, that is not a one-sentence footnote. That is the whole story.

I wrote about exactly this in REPLACEMENT — how we offshore the capital, the IP, and the manufacturing while telling ourselves we're still winning. Out July 28.

Read who's funding it. Not just what they're building.

What are your thoughts?
